Big ticket corporate funding in aid of fight against COVID – 19

Tata Sons has announced an allocation of Rs. 1000 crore for support towards COVID 19 and related activities. Earlier,  Ratan N. Tata, Chairman, Tata Trusts, had announced a set of actions and committed Rs. 500 Crore towards tackling the situation. “In addition to the initiatives articulated by Tata Trusts, we are also bringing in the ventilators necessary and are gearing up to also manufacture the same soon in India. The country is facing an unprecedented situation and crisis. All of us would have to do whatever it takes to alleviate and enhance the quality of lives of the communities we serve,” a statement from Tata Sons said.

NMDC Ltd., the Navaratna PSE mining company, has declared that they will contribute Rs 150 cr. to the PMCares Fund to help in the fight against COVID -19. N. Baijendra Kumar,  Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC announced this in a tweet . NMDC, which has operations in the remote parts of India has also implemented steps to fight the Corona Virus at the villages and hamlets adjacent to its facilities and townships, a media communication said.

Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC) has pledged to contribute Rs 200 crore to the “Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund”  to support the battle against COVID-19. PFC’s employees will voluntarily contribute a day’s salary to ‘PM-CARES Fund’ to further strengthen the nation’s fight against the dreaded disease.

Kalyani Group flagship company Bharat Forge has pledged assistance via direct contribution of Rs 25 Crore to PMCARES Fund to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Baba Kalyani, Chairman, Bharat Forge Limited, said “The group is committed to assist the central and state government and the local authorities in all possible ways to deal with the pandemic. We are also using our group R&D facilities to look at ways of easing the shortage of critical medical equipment’s including ventilators, Respiratory equipment and other sanitation/hygiene equipment. As part of our CSR activity we have started addressing the food requirements of the local community and will increase the efforts in the coming days”.

 Piramal Group, to aid governmen’s fight against COVID-19 has pledged Rs 25 Crore towards the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund).  “Piramal Group, stands in solidarity with the efforts of the Government to overcome this pandemic that is impacting millions of lives and countries across the globe. The monetary commitment comes on the heels of the manpower and services that have already been deployed in collaboration with central and state government entities to address the unprecedented challenges created by this crisis,” a communication said.

FMCG company Jyothy Labs Ltd (JLL) is donating Rs.5 crore to provide relief for COVID-19, MP Ramachandran, Chairman and Managing Director, JLL, announced. A sum of Rs 2 crore has been earmarked for the Kerala CM Fund and Rs. 1 crore each to Maharashtra CM Fund, Assam CM fund and PM CARES fund, respectively.

Financial Services conglomerate, IIFL Group has committed Rs 5 Crore to PM Cares Fund.  Nirmal Jain, Founder, IIFL Group, said that besides the contribution the company is also engaging its 18000+ employees as well to mobilise more support for this cause. Mr Jain appreciated the concerted efforts by the central and state governments and reiterated that it is through collective community efforts that we could overcome this situation.
